Enjoy Georgia’s Peaches at a Peach Orchard

Peaches | Blue Ridge

Known as the Peach State, Georgia is filled with peachy things to do — including trying our homegrown peaches at a peach orchard on your next mountain vacation with family or friends. When visiting North Georgia peach orchards above Atlanta, you can expect more than just picking or buying peaches in peach season.

Our top 5 peacheries often feature a variety of other fruits (namely apples — consider visiting Mercier Orchards), vegetables, homemade jams and preserves, fried pies, fresh bread, local honey, chutneys, pickled peaches, ciders, and sometimes peach ice cream. And don’t be surprised if there’s a fun event at the peach orchards in North Georgia!

While May through September is prime time for fresh peaches, feel free to stop by the fruit farms throughout the year to check out what’s in season besides yummy varieties of peaches on your next Blue Ridge vacation.

1. R & A Orchards | Ellijay
With the first peach trees planted in 1947, R & A Orchards in Ellijay, GA, is a farm dipped in local history. Today, there are rolling fruit and vegetable fields plus a large kitchen where yummy pies and other treats are made from scratch.

There are 10 acres of peaches and nectarines, and you can even take a tractor-led farm tour by appointment every weekend in September. Our peach favorite at this North Georgia orchard has to be the jalapeno peach jelly!

U-pick Events Cancelled for 2021
Sadly, most of the farms in North Georgia had to cancel their U-pick events — where you can pick the fruits and vegetables you want right from the tree, vine, or bush — due to an unexpected frost earlier in 2021.

BUT the crops were still salvageable enough to pull a decent harvest for sale, so you can still purchase and try North Georgia peaches this year! Just give them a call ahead of time to check on the status of your favorite fruits and veggies.

Bonus tip: you can also shop for fresh local produce (including peaches when in season) at the weekly North Georgia Farmers Market in Blue Ridge.
